The Fortune Teller is an interactive sculptural work inspired by the childhood game played with an origami fortune teller. Viewers are invited to engage with the piece, choosing which directions and answers to reveal. We often search for direction, answers about the future, and meaning in life, yet as the interaction unfolds, the “answers” become reflections of the memories, experiences, and decisions that shape who we become. Rather than offering fixed truths, the work suggests that there is no single right or wrong path, only new paths continuously formed.

Inspired by the quote, “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are,” See explores how perception and identity are shaped. Just as differently shaped glass bottles hold their contents in their own ways regardless of what is inside, we interpret the world through personal frameworks formed by who we are. Each piece reveals only fragments of an image through cut-out openings in mat board, emphasizing that what we see is always filtered through our own perspective.
